In 1957, 100 farmers established the first wet mill, the \u003cstrong data-start=\"1237\" data-end=\"1262\"\u003eKevote Coffee Factory\u003c\/strong\u003e. Today, the cooperative operates three wet mills—\u003cstrong data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1349\"\u003eKevote, Kianjuki, and Ngaindethia\u003c\/strong\u003e—and has grown to over 4,500 members.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1388\" data-end=\"1778\"\u003eKevote alone now produces around 350,000 kg of coffee cherries per year from approximately 100,000 coffee trees. The cherries are carefully hand-picked at peak ripeness and delivered to the wet mill on the same day.
